Middle Grade March is a month-long reading challenge designed to help parents, teachers, and librarians motivate middle grade readers while building real-world skills through story. Centered around the Charms Book Series, this structured 31-day reading program for ages 8–14 combines engaging middle grade fiction with daily skill-building prompts that support literacy development, critical thinking, time management, teamwork, and confidence. Unlike traditional reading assignments, this challenge blends story-based learning with short, daily activities that make reading interactive, purposeful, and fun for tweens. It’s an ideal reading initiative for classrooms, libraries, homeschool programs, and families looking for books that kids actually enjoy while strengthening comprehension, problem-solving abilities, and lifelong learning habits. Middle Grade March supports educational goals, social-emotional growth, and STEM-related curiosity, making it a powerful reading motivation program for students in grades 4–8.

3

Foundation or Grant Funding

Because our Story Quest Kits combines literacy, STEM education, life skills, career exploration and workforce readiness, libraries can explore support from community and family foundations, corporate foundations, literacy and STEM funders, and other philanthropic organizations.

One Investment. Years of Adventure.

A Story Quest Kit doesn’t create a one-day event. It becomes a reusable community resource that can serve library programs, classrooms, homeschool groups, book clubs and youth organizations again and again.

Your library becomes the home base. Your community helps make it possible. And young readers get something much bigger than a box of books, they get the chance to read the story, build the skill and discover what’s possible.

Books That Build Skills: Stories change lives. Skills build futures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the library have to run the program itself?
No. That’s one of the advantages of the Story Quest Kit model.

A library can run its own program at the library, but the kit is meant to be made available to teachers, homeschool groups, book clubs and community organizations to check out for 30-day allotments for organizations to run their own program.

The entire kit can go out into the community, come back to the library and be used by the next group.

That allows the library to serve as the community home base for the program without requiring library staff to personally facilitate every Story Quest experience.

What is a Story Quest Kit?
Story Quest is a ready-to-use book series program for middle grade readers that turns one Charms story into an entire learning adventure.

Each kit includes 50 copies of one Charms book plus discussion materials, Word Quest vocabulary activities, life-skill worksheets, career exploration, hands-on projects, games and other story-based activities.

The program combines literacy, practical life skills, STEM exploration and early workforce development in a format libraries and organizations can put into action without developing a program from scratch.

Who is a Story Quest Kit designed for?
Story Quest Kits are designed primarily for girls ages 10–15, spanning the middle grade and early teen years.

The stories and activities are designed to help readers strengthen literacy while developing practical skills, exploring careers and discovering connections between what they are learning now and what they may choose to do in the future.

Who can purchase a Story Quest Kit?

Story Quest Kits can be purchased by organizations that want to make the program available to young people in their community, including:

  • Public libraries and library systems
  • Schools and educators
  • Homeschool organizations and co-ops
  • Chambers of commerce
  • Community and civic organizations
  • Youth-serving nonprofits
  • Churches and youth groups
  • Businesses and corporate partners
  • Foundations and philanthropic organizations

Organizations can purchase one Story Quest Kit for $1,000 or the complete seven-kit Story Quest collection for $7,000.

Can a library or organization purchase a Story Quest Kit of its own?
Yes. Libraries, schools and organizations can purchase Story Quest Kits as a complete program for their own location or community.

Once in place, the kit becomes a reusable learning resource. A library can use it for its own programming or make it available to teachers, homeschool groups, book clubs and community organizations.

Schools, homeschool organizations and other youth-serving organizations can use the kits and materials to hold their own Story Quest program at their location.

Can a Chamber of Commerce bring Story Quest Kits to its community?
Yes. Story Quest Kits can be used as an early workforce development initiative that connects literacy and practical skills with career and industry exploration.

A Chamber can purchase a Story Quest Kit for a local library, school or community organization, help identify businesses to sponsor individual kits, or coordinate a community effort to fund the complete seven-kit collection.

This gives Chambers an opportunity to connect local employers with young people before they enter the workforce — helping readers discover industries, careers and the practical skills that will matter later in life.

How does a Story Quest Kit support workforce development?
Workforce development doesn’t begin with a first job. It begins when young people start developing practical skills, discovering careers and understanding how their interests connect to the world around them.

Throughout the Story Quest Kits, readers encounter skills such as communication, time management, project planning, preparation, problem solving, budgeting, decision making and leadership while exploring the careers and industries connected to the stories.

Story Quest Kits use the Charms Book Series as the doorway into those conversations, making career exploration approachable and relevant for middle grade and early teen readers.

How can our library or organization pay for a Story Quest Kit?
There are several ways to bring Story Quest to your community.

Your library, school or organization can purchase the program directly, seek foundation or grant funding, or invite local businesses and community partners to sponsor the program.

One Story Quest Kit is $1,000, making it possible to pair one community business with one kit. Seven partners can work together to bring the complete seven-kit Story Quest collection to a community.

1 BUSINESS = 1 KIT
7 COMMUNITY PARTNERS = THE COMPLETE COLLECTION

What if we want Story Quest Kits but don't have the funding?
We’ll provide you with the tools to go after it.

Libraries, schools and organizations that want to bring Story Quest Kits to their community can receive our “How to Get a Sponsor Package” with materials designed to help you approach businesses, foundations and community partners for funding.

The package gives you the tools to explain Story Quest Kits, demonstrate its value to young people and your community, and make a clear funding request — so you aren’t starting from a blank page.

What's included in the How to Get a Sponsor Package?

The package is designed to give your organization the materials needed to begin its own local funding outreach.

Resources will include:

  • Story Quest program overview
  • Sponsorship flyers
  • Email templates
  • Materials explaining what a sponsorship funds
  • Information to share with prospective community partner

The goal is simple: You know your community. We give you the tools to make the ask.

Can a local business sponsor a Story Quest Kit for a library or school?
Yes. Businesses can fund a $1,000 individual Story Quest Kit or contribute toward the complete seven-kit collection.

Whenever possible, businesses can be connected with a Story Quest whose themes, careers or practical skills naturally relate to their industry. That helps turn sponsorship into a meaningful connection between local employers, young readers and future career possibilities.

Can we use a foundation or grant to fund a Story Quest Kit?
Yes. Libraries, schools and organizations may seek grant or foundation funding to purchase the Story Quest Kits.

Because the program brings together literacy, STEM education, life skills, career exploration and early workforce development, it may align with several types of philanthropic funding.

Our How to Get a Sponsor Package provides program information you can use as you pursue potential funding opportunities.

Can we start with just one Story Quest Kit?
Absolutely. Organizations can begin with the Book #1 $1,000 kit and add additional kits over time, or purchase the complete seven-kit collection for $7,000.
